About

Elizabeth uses clay as a material to communicate nature and the environment through useful and beautiful ceramics and artworks.

The connection with nature and the environment that clay provides helps create tangible, interesting, unique handcrafted items that represent the natural environment. Elizabeth aims to capture the sense of sunny, hot Australian summers, golden beaches, palm trees and boundless blue skies and oceans.

My intention is to create forms and designs that are reminders of those things we love: people in our lives, our pets, happy holidays, special moments, and what may seem ordinary in our extraordinary environment.”

My work tends to be environmentally descriptive. Although often initially wheel thrown, an element of spontaneity is injected through the hand building addition, as well as the practice of leaving unglazed areas to emphasise the beauty of the clay.”

Working with many types of clay, glazes and materials, the strength and durability of stoneware stands out, as well as the fragile beauty and vulnerability of porcelain. There is an unpredictability of working with clay, and this unpredictability is allowed to impact the final result.
